Kiting

Kiting, or cheque kiting, is a fraudulent scheme involving the alteration or issuance of a cheque or draft with insufficient funds. Individuals take advantage of the extended period of time needed for clearing by writing “bad” cheques to deposit funds into a savings account or bank account, for example, before the cheques are cashed.

This practice is no longer very common in the UK as cheques are no longer widely used.
