Posting

Posting occurs when debits or credits are deducted from the cardholder’s account.

Funds are immediately held in your account when you make a debit or a credit card purchase, however the debits and credits are only posted when the bank has completed processing at the end of the day and the bank then hard-posts them. Hard-posting a transaction means funds have changed hands and the transaction has completed. Every debit or credit must have an offset before it can be posted, so every deposit slip credit must have a debit or a combination of debits that offset it exactly for it to complete posting.

The bank can post online immediately through online banking the updated current balance for the customer to see.
