Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secured (HTTPS)

Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secured, or HTTPS, is a variant of HTTP, which transfers and displays Web content securely. The data transferred is encrypted so that no one but the recipient can read the information.

HTTPS is used by any website that is collecting sensitive customer information such as banking or purchasing data. If you are making a transaction online, always make sure it is done over an HTTPS website so that your data is secure. You can be sure that the Web page is using HTTPS as the URL will read “https://” at the beginning, or the https certificate will be in the form of a little padlock sign on the bottom right hand corner of the page.
