Acquiring Bank/Merchant Bank

An acquiring bank or merchant bank is the bank or financial institution that processes credit and/or debit card payments for products or services for a merchant, after using a credit card machine or online card processing.

A merchant has an account with this bank (called a merchant account) and each day deposits the value of the day’s credit card or debit sales. Acquirers obtain the merchant’s sales slips and credit the tickets value to the merchant’s account.
