Chargeback Period

Chargeback period is the number of calendar days from the time of authorisation during which the issuer has the right to charge the transaction back to the acquirer, beginning the chargeback process. The number of days varies according to the type of transaction from 30 to 180 days, for example credit card companies, such as MasterCard, have a 120-day chargeback period, VISA have a 120 day chargeback time limit and American Express have a 3 month period in which to begin the chargeback process.
