Electronic Data Capture (EDC) Terminal

An Electronic Data Capture (EDC) Terminal is a point-of-sale device that reads information encoded in the bankcard’s magnetic stripe, performs authorisation functions, stores transaction data and batches and transmits that data to the acquirer for processing. The stored transactions are used to create settlement files and transaction reports. Also referred to as Electronic Draft Capture terminal.

The payment processor on any e-commerce website uses this software for data capture and to accept credit cards online rather than a POS terminal.
