Merchant Number

A merchant number is a number that identifies each merchant to the merchant processor for accounting and billing purposes.

The merchant number is assigned to the merchant account, which allows businesses to accept payments by credit card and debit card. This merchant account is established under an agreement between an acceptor and acquirer for the settlement of card transactions.
