Pass Through
Pass through pricing and transactions are a less common form of payment processing services and billing.
Under the pass through model the processor reports on all credit card processing fees and services such as interchange fees, assessments and the processor’s own fees. There is no merchant discount rate.
Using pass through allows merchants to verify their fees, as the interchange fees and assessment rates are reported in the same format as other published rates. The processor’s own fees will be billed and reported to the merchant in a separate accounting. These fees may be expressed in terms of a fixed per transaction fee, a percentage or a combination of both. It is more desirable to be billed under a pass through model as it is clear what you are paying and to whom you are paying these fees,
In other words, a pass through is a transaction that is processed by NOIRE for statement purposes, but is not funded by the processor (i.e., American Express, JCB, Discover).
The larger the merchant, the greater the benefit of pass through. Larger merchants will have a greater number of transactions resulting in a larger number of interchange qualification categories, meaning they will experience rate downgrades.
