Reference Number

A reference number is a twenty-three digit number assigned by the acquiring member and used to identify a transaction.

All reference numbers are unique and the customer is able to create their own (a customer reference number) when using online banking services. The unique number is assigned by Merchant Processing System (MPS) referencing a deposit or transaction. The reference number identifies a transaction in a cardholder billing system. Each transaction reference number is printed on the monthly statement sent to the cardholder, or if the customer uses online banking they can see the transaction and its reference number immediately after posting. The reference number is used if a retrieval request becomes necessary.

You can also use the NOIRE short number to find the transaction reference number in the NOIRE Gateway.
